Judging takes place at 5 pm on Saturday and results will be posted that evening on social media and announced Sunday morning.

CHECK-IN: Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 & Saturday, 8:00 – 3:00

JUDGING: Saturday / 5:00 pm


CATEGORY:

A – Heritage Wool 

B – Fine Wool

C – Camelid

D – Cellulose

E – Blended Fiber - Combination of 2 or more fibers

Classes

Ages as of January 1 of the current year.


WHEEL SPUN

  1. Youth - age 12 – 17 
  2. Beginner: Over 18 years, less than 1 year experience
  3. Intermediate: Over 18 years. 1-2 years experience
  4. Experienced: Over 18 years, 3-4 years experience
  5. Advanced: Over 18 years, over 5 years experience


SPINDLE SPUN

  1. Drop Spindle: Under 1 year experience
  2. Drop Spindle: 1-2 years experience
  3. Drop Spindle: 3 or more years experience

CRITERIA

Skeins will be judged on a point system. 


POINTS are based on the following:

  1. Fiber Preparation/Cleanliness
  2. Spinning Technique
  3. Skill (Difficulty)
  4. Finishing
  5. Appropriateness for intended use
  6. Sample swatch included

Entries open to public viewing during registration, during check-in hours and at completion of judging until 5:00 pm Saturday. All entries must be picked up between 9:00 – 2:00 on Sunday.

ENTRY FEE, RULES & INSTRUCTIONS

ENTRY FEE, RULES & INSTRUCTIONS

$2.00 per skein entry fee. Use downloadable PDF form. Entries must be filled out completely or the entry will be disqualified. Judge and/or superintendent reserve the right to give awards to quality skeins only, move skeins to appropriate categories, split, close or combine classes. 

  1. All work must be that of the Entrant.
  2. Skeins must be TWO or more ounces in weight (attached swatch can be added to weight).
  3. Presentation: Skeins must be wound on a niddy-noddy.
  4. All entries must be gently figure-eight tied in four places. Do not twist into a tight skein but leave hanging loosely.
  5. ALL skeins MUST have a 3”x3”, no larger than 4”x4” swatch attached to the skein. Swatches can be Crochet, Knit, Woven, or other method showing the yarn in a finished example. Points will be deducted for skeins not having the required swatch.
  6. Texas Fleece and Fiber Festival LLC assumes no liability for lost, stolen, or damaged entries.

AWARDS

  1. Ribbon awarded to 1st place in all categories/classes.
  2. Monetary award to 1st place in all categories/classes.
  3. All 1st place monetary award winners will be combined for a single Best in Show Award


First Place - $10.00 plus fiber to spin
